Vision

We envision a liberated future. Through independent, genre-bending media and intentional collaboration, we strive to nourish the spirit, spark collective imagination, and redefine what is possible. As a hub for boundary-pushing artistry, we aim to cultivate a thriving community of creators and audiences united in building a new culture.

Mission

Our mission is to produce independent media that centers the global majority, challenges dominant narratives, and cultivates cultural transformation. We support visionary artists in telling stories rooted in liberation.

Sea

Founder/Lead Producer

Sea is an award-winning filmmaker and birth worker of Caribbean heritage. Their work blends myth and spirituality to tell stories of mourning, maternal inheritance, and self-possession, guided by Black feminist principles. Sea approaches filmmaking as ritual, shaping personal and ancestral memory into collective reflection. They are a 2024–2025 Baldwin for the Arts fellow, a 2024 Resisting Narratives of Erasure fellow with Visionary Justice StoryLab, and are currently developing their Howard University MFA thesis film.

Sea founded Ancient Well Productions in 2023 as a space to create cinema that heals, remembers, and reimagines. Born from a desire to work outside extractive models and toward a liberatory process, Ancient Well exists to tell stories in community, honor ancestral ways of knowing, and to encourage experimentation, intuition, and care.

Core Values

Below are the guiding principles of Ancient Well. As an organization we strive to embody these values internally, as we work with our collaborators, and through the stories that we tell.

Collective Care is the prioritization of the well-being of people, fostering a culture of mutual support, rest, and sustainability. It is the understanding that our work is only possible when we care for each other.

Change is embraced as both the practice and responsibility to work with, acknowledge, and necessitate transformation and adaptability.

Dedication is the deep commitment to excellent work and honoring the craft of storytelling.

Intersectionality is honored through practices and stories that reflect the interconnectedness of race, gender, class, and beyond. We uplift complexity and multiplicity, rejecting singular narratives.

Liberation is the shifting of power through art and storytelling. It is an act of alchemy, crafting new realities through film.
